Intuit Announces AI-Focused Reorganization and Layoffs

Intuit, the financial software company behind QuickBooks and TurboTax, revealed a significant AI-focused reorganization plan that includes laying off approximately 10% of its workforce, or 1,800 employees. This move aims to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence into its products and services. CEO Sasan Goodarzi explained that over 1,000 of the layoffs were due to employees not meeting the company's elevated performance standards, while another 300 positions were cut to streamline operations and focus on key growth areas. The reorganization also involves closing offices in Boise, Idaho, and Edmonton, Canada, affecting over 250 employees, some of whom will be relocated. Despite the layoffs, Intuit plans to hire at least as many employees in fiscal 2025. The company has assured laid-off U.S. employees of a severance package that includes a minimum of 16 weeks of pay, extended health insurance, and additional compensation based on years of service. Intuit's reorganization is expected to cost between $250 million and $260 million, impacting its fiscal fourth-quarter results. Following the announcement, Intuit's shares fell by 3.6% to $626.29 per share.
