X Faces Privacy Complaints for AI Training Data Use

X is embroiled in privacy controversies after reportedly using data from European users to train its AI models without proper consent. The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) and privacy rights group noyb have expressed concerns about X’s compliance with GDPR, following revelations that the platform began processing post data for its Grok AI chatbot without notifying users. Complaints have been lodged in multiple EU countries, accusing X of bypassing the regulation’s requirement for valid legal grounds and user consent. Despite some action from the DPC, including legal proceedings aimed at halting the data processing, noyb argues that current measures are inadequate and that users still lack a clear way to delete their data. The situation highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring compliance with privacy laws amidst the rise of AI technologies.
