Offensive and Defensive AI: Let's chat(GPT) About It

ChatGPT has been all over the news in the last couple of months. While AI has been around for a while, ChatGPT (and OpenAI’s Playground) simply allows anyone to interact with the software. This did not go unnoticed by cybercriminals, who are already discussing ways of using the tool to their advantage in underground Russian forums.

In this session, we will show how threat actors can use ChatGPT to help them in different stages of a breach, from creating phishing emails, identifying vulnerabilities, writing malware, and exfiltrating data. We will then show how defenders can use ChatGPT for debugging, understanding security tools, creating reports, predicting an adversary’s next step, and more. Key points this document will highlight:

  • How threat actors can use ChatGPT for cyber attacks

  • How security teams can use ChatGPT to protect from attacks

  • AI limitations and biases

  • The legal, privacy, and copyright challenges that AI presents

Google Introduces New Gemini Features for Chrome

Google announced new features powered by its Gemini AI for Chrome's desktop version, aiming to enhance user experience with advanced search and shopping tools.

Key Points

  • Google Lens for Desktop: Now available in the address bar and menu, allowing users to click on parts of a page or objects in images to perform enhanced searches and get AI-generated summaries.

  • Tab Compare: An AI-powered tool that summarizes similar products across different tabs, providing details like specs, features, and prices in one place for easier shopping comparisons.

  • Natural Language Search History: A new feature enabling users to search their browsing history using natural language queries, such as asking about a specific page or item they visited previously. This feature will be available as an opt-in for U.S. users.

These updates bring advanced AI capabilities to Chrome, making it easier for users to search, shop, and manage their browsing history. With features like Lens for desktop and Tab Compare, Google aims to streamline the user experience and improve how people interact with web content.

Google Pulls Olympics AI Ad

Google has withdrawn its Olympics commercial for the Gemini chatbot following backlash over its portrayal of AI assisting a young girl in writing a fan letter. The ad, “Dear Sydney,” depicted a father using Gemini to help his daughter draft a letter to athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. Despite initial positive testing, the ad faced criticism for promoting automation over genuine creativity, especially involving children. Google has decided to phase out the ad from its Olympics rotation, maintaining that Gemini is intended to aid in idea generation rather than replace human creativity. The controversy echoes broader concerns about AI's impact on creative fields, following similar issues with ads from other tech giants like Apple.

Quick Takes

  • Suno Admits to Using Copyrighted Music in AI Training: Suno has admitted in a court filing that it used copyrighted music to train its AI model but claims this use is protected under fair use. The RIAA, which is suing Suno and Udio for copyright infringement, argues that this use constitutes theft of artists' work.

  • Nvidia Delays Next-Generation AI Chips: Nvidia has reportedly delayed the launch of its Blackwell B200 AI chips by at least three months due to a design flaw, with mass shipments now expected to begin in early 2025. This setback could impact Nvidia’s revenue, stock performance, and affect major customers and partners in the AI sector.
