Anthropic Backs U.S. AI Chip Controls

Image: Anthropic

Anthropic is throwing its support behind the U.S. government’s proposed export controls on AI chips, saying it’s a smart move to help the U.S. maintain a competitive edge over China in the global AI race. In a new blog post, the company endorsed the Department of Commerce’s “Framework for Artificial Intelligence Diffusion,” which classifies countries into three tiers with varying restrictions. While fully backing the framework’s goals, Anthropic suggested a key change: limit the number of chips Tier 2 countries like Mexico and Portugal can purchase without review, and instead encourage sales through official government agreements to prevent misuse or smuggling. The company also called for increased funding to enforce these new rules. Unlike Nvidia, which criticized the controls as a threat to innovation, Anthropic has consistently supported tighter regulation aligning with its CEO Dario Amodei’s ongoing push for stronger AI oversight in the interest of national security.

Google’s AI Tools Take on Scammers

Image: Google

As scams grow more advanced, Google is rolling out two new AI-powered features to help Android users fight back: one that flags suspicious texts in real time, and another that detects potential scam calls using on-device AI. These tools prioritize privacy by processing data locally, but with scammers constantly evolving, users still need to take extra precautions like enabling two-factor authentication, installing strong antivirus software, and avoiding oversharing personal info. While Google's tech is a major step forward, protecting yourself in 2025 still requires a layered, proactive approach.
