AI Decodes Pig Speak

European scientists have rolled out an innovative AI algorithm that translates pig sounds, aiming to bridge the communication gap between farmers and their swine. By analyzing thousands of recorded vocalizations from playful oinks to competitive squeals, the algorithm reveals the emotional states of pigs—short grunts suggest joy, while longer squeals indicate stress. Elodie Mandel-Briefer from the University of Copenhagen notes that this tech could empower farmers with real-time insights into their pigs' feelings, transforming how they care for these animals. Soon, farmers might just have an app that lets them know exactly what their pigs are trying to say.
